Episode 30
Skacky – Adventures in Imagination
an autistic child finds his voice
by T.A. Pack
My guest is Lexington based illustrator, artist, writer, poet, photographer, dramatist, singer, pastor, missionary, and amazing Dad, Timothy Pack.
I hope he’s okay with that description. As humble as I find him to be, he might push back a little. This summer he published a children’s book which he wrote and illustrated named Skacky – Adventures in Imagination. An autistic child finds his voice.
It’s about the creative outlet his son, Josiah, developed that helped him communicate and interact with the world through his autism. Here’s the dedication Timothy wrote:
“This book is dedicated to my son, Josiah, whose imagination breathed life into his favorite toys. In choosing, naming, and animating his toys, an otherwise silent child found his voice. In a creative expression of caring, adventure, humor, and love, Josiah gives us a window into autism, and shows us the value of belonging.”
In this conversation we talk about autism, creativity, adventure, love, and living with purpose.
We’ll begin with getting to know about Timothy and his journey and then talk about autism and the inspiring story of Josiah.
Drop in on our conversation after I’ve asked Timothy to tell us where he was born and raised.
